Mangia DC Food Tours is seeking passionate and energetic tour guides. Applicants must possess strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, a wonderful sense of humor, and an appreciation for great food. Leading a food tour is a combination of quick thinking on your feet, storytelling, and managing a crowd from one location to the next. We’ll provide all the training and materials you’ll need. Once you’re up to speed and leading a food tour, we believe you’ll find the experience fun and rewarding.
Positions are part-time. We will conduct 2-6 tours per week during the regular season March through December. Training begins immediately. To learn more about what we do, please visit www.mangiadc.com.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Lead 3+ hour walking tours around historic Washington, DC Neighborhoods
– Learn a script with historic facts about various locations, restaurant biographies, and food analyses
– Stay organized and on schedule throughout public and private tour experiences
– Liaison with restaurant partners to ensure food service is prompt
REQUIREMENTS:
– Live in or near Washington, DC; preferably for 3 or more years
– Must have an appreciation for international and local cuisine
– Must be able to memorize a script
– Willingness to utilize personal smartphone on the job
– Be responsible, reliable, and over 21 years of age
– Lead a walking tour that includes some uneven terrain (i.e. cobblestone sidewalks)
– Be vaccinated against COVID-19
PREFERRED QUALITIES:
– Availability on weekday and weekend afternoons, occasional evenings
– Bachelors Degree is preferred; welcome Masters/MBA degrees or a comparable level of curiosity and knowledge
– Background in acting (professional/college/high school) or teaching is preferred
– Previous tourism or hospitality experience is a plus but not required
– Self-employed individuals and/or flexible schedules preferred but not mandatory
